More than 100 participants, mainly from African civil society organizations, contributed to the discussions during the two-day meetings; focusing on the Commissions report and its implecations for civil society organizations working within the region. Vice President Jacob Zuma highlighted the importance of the report and discussed with the participants on the ways in which Africa can sustain the peace process in lieu of ongoing violent conflicts.
The meetings also focused on the need to ensure minimum living standard for all people living in the continent. The Africa Institute of South Africa organizined the event under the guidance of Frene Ginwala, Speaker of Parliament and a member of the Commission on Human Security.
