Dissemiation, Activities, and Findings

Since delivering the Commission's report to the UN Secretary-General, Commissioners have been actively disseminating the recommendations of the report.

• Sadako Ogata made statement "Empowering People for Human Security" at Payne Lecture, Stanford University. 28 May 2003
  
  
• Frene Ginwala and the Africa Institute of South Africa convened a civil society meeting to reveiw the final report. Vice President Jacob Zuma of the Republic of South Africa participated in the meetings. 26-27 May 2003
  
  
• Frene Ginwala submitted the report to President Thabo Mbeki of the Republic of South Africa, in Capetown. 21 May 2003
  
  
• Sadako Ogata and Peter Sutherland presented the final report to an audience of multilateral agencies, NGOs, academia and local participants at the Graduate Institute for International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. 13 May 2003
  
  
• Sadako Ogata presented the final report to the Human Security Network in Graz, Austria. 8 May 2003
  
  
• Sadako Ogata and Amartya Sen, the Co-Chairs of the Commission, presented the final report to the UN Secretary-General. 1 May 2003
  
  
• Sadako Ogata and Amartya Sen presented the final report at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. 1 May 2003

During its two-year life, the Commission held five official meetings (New York, Tokyo, Stockholm, Bangkok, and Tokyo).

The Commission also engaged in two major research projects, focusing on conflict and development.

Furthermore, the Commission held various outreach activities to listen to the concerns of people in direct situations of insecurity.
