The Human Security Unit
For follow-up activities on the Commission on Human Security, its report and the Advisory Board on Human Security, please go to the website of the Human Security Unit (HSU). The HSU was established in September 2004 in the United Nations Secretariat at the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The overall objective of the HSU is to place human security in the mainstream of UN activities.

Establishment of the Advisory Board on Human Security
The Commission on Human Security concluded its activities on 31 May 2003. Since then, the Advisory Board on Human Security (ABHS) has been established to among others carry forward the recommendations of the Commission.

The Final Report
On 1 May 2003, Co-Chairs of the Commission on Human Security, Sadako Ogata and Amartya Sen, presented the Commissions Final Report, Human Security Now, to the United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan.

About the Commission
The Commission on Human Security was established in January 2001 through the initiative of the Government of Japan and in response to the UN Secretary-Generals call at the 2000 Millennium Summit for a world free of want and free of fear. The Commission consisted of twelve prominent international figures, including Mrs. Sadako Ogata (former UN High Commissioner for Refugees) and Professor Amartya Sen (1998 Nobel Economics Prize Laureate). Dissemination, Activities, and Findings
Since delivering the Commissions Report to the UN Secretary-General, Commissioners have been actively disseminating the recommendations of the Report.
During its two-year life, the Commission held five official meetings (New York, Tokyo, Stockholm, Bangkok, and Tokyo).
The Commission also engaged in two major research projects, focusing on conflict and development.
Furthermore, the Commission held various outreach activities to listen to the concerns of people in direct situations of insecurity.
